THE QUIZ

Find out how powerful your inner brat has been in your life. If you’re not sure, ask someone who has to live with you. Or take this unscientific quiz. As you take it, note that every time you answer “yes” you are learning about the influence your inner brat has. You might even discover, as some folks who have taken this quiz have, that you have twins! You’ll also realize the positive side to your brat.
Oh, by the way, if you don’t want to take the quiz, guess who is behind that? It’s your brat.
Is your sink always full of dirty dishes?
Is your car in the driveway because it won’t fit in the garage?
Are you late a lot?
Are your credit cards out of control?
Do you love animals?

Do you like surprises?
Is your laundry backed-up?
Are you creative?

NAME YOUR INNER BRAT

After taking the quiz and hearing yourself answer “yes” more that “no” it’s time to give your brat a name! Don’t go out and get one of those name-your-baby books, just think of a name that reminds you of the biggest real brat you’ve ever known. Pam named her brat Nelly. (See
HOW PAM MET HER BRAT.) If you like Nelly, by all means use it.

WHAT’S YOUR BRAT BEEN UP TO?

Once you have named your inner brat, it’s time to assess the mess. You will need to start seeing what your brat has been up to as far as your disorganization is concerned.
For this fun adventure you will need four things: a timer, a notebook, pen and an empty toilet paper tube. Pretend the tube is a telescope. Sit in one of your messiest rooms and start at the door of the room and scan clockwise through your high-powered, magical telescope that is on the cutting edge of technology for discovering what your brat has been up to. Set the timer for five minutes. (Close the eye that is not looking through the telescope.)
As you look at a specific mess, write down what habit is behind that mess. For example, a chair in the bedroom full of yesterday’s clothes (or maybe including last week’s clothes) will tell you that your brat is pooped at the end of the day and too tired to hang up clothes or put them in the dirty-clothes hamper, instead she strips and flops. There’s a good possibility she doesn’t brush her teeth or wash her face either. If this were what you found, you would write down a new habit. “Establish a 15-minute regime for getting ready for bed.” In 15 minutes you could hang up clothes, floss, brush teeth, wash and moisturize your face, make sure the kitchen is straightened up and turn on the dishwasher.
All it would take is getting you and your brat to stop your day 15 minutes before the strip and flop.
In five minutes using your telescope you will see exactly what has been going on right under your nose. By writing down the habits to establish and allowing time before takes over your messes will gradually disappear.

HOW PAM MET HER BRAT

While Pam and Peggy were writing a book on how to organize personal finance (soon to be published) Pam met her inner brat and her life changed dramatically! She named her inner brat Nelly after the brat on the television show,
Little House on the Prairie. Since that chance meeting on July 4, 2002, she has had an on-going relationship with Nelly. Because of her, Pam has learned when it comes to getting organized, “If it isn’t fun, it won’t get done!” Pam has created tools and strategies, which are simple and fun. They will help you tame your inner brat so you can get and stay organized. Pam tells about meeting Nelly in detail on the CD
